Joseph Woll has been a stud over the course of the last three games, although tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs are going with backup Dennis Hildeby in the second half of a back-to-back.
Rookie goaltender Dennis Hildeby has been a bit of a wildcard this season, as the Maple Leafs have had questions about his NHL readiness.
However, due to injuries, he has been thrust into the spotlight, and with Anthony Stolarz recovering from a procedure, the franchise has chosen Hildeby over veteran Matt Murray.
Given the fact that Woll played last night, it should come as no surprise that Hildeby would be called upon for tonight's matchup with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Leafs are on a three-game winning streak and they will be counting on their rookie to make it four.
Hildeby has started his career with a 2-1 record, although in his small sample size, he has given up quite a few goals.
His goals-against average is 3.68 while his save percentage is .875. Needless to say, his stats could be a lot better and he would probably be the first to admit that.
Regardless, the Maple Leafs are in a tough spot with their goalies and they have no choice but to give Hildeby a chance tonight.
If they were to force Woll to play in tonight's match, they would be putting him at risk for an injury, which would make the goaltending situation a whole lot worse.
Hopefully, Hildeby is up to the test and proves that he can be a viable backup in the National Hockey League.
