Ryan O'Reilly's brief tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs wasn't exactly fruitful and it was pretty clear that he was not a fan of the media scrutiny the team often received.
As soon as the center had the opportunity to leave, he did just that and signed a contract with the Nashville Predators.
However, O'Reilly is now on the trading block and the Maple Leafs have expressed some interest in a reunion, especially with the team desperate for some help down the middle.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Leafs general manager Brad Treliving called the Predators and inquired about the center.
Unfortunately, Ryan O'Reilly made it crystal clear that he has no interest in every playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs again.
Previously, it had been theorized that the center was particularly upset with head coach Sheldon Keefe, which led to the forward's departure. Although now, the head coach is Craig Berube.
Simply put, it would appear as though O'Reilly just doesn't like the Maple Leafs as a whole and would much rather play somewhere else.
Right now, the New Jersey Devils are looking like the frontrunners for O'Reilly and this is because of the devastating injury to Jack Hughes.
The Nashville Predators star has 16 goals and 40 points this season with a net rating of -17.
Overall, the Preds have not been good this season and no one knows whether or not they will be buyers or sellers at the deadline.
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs will just have to go back to the drawing board and focus on guys like Brayden Schenn and Scott Laughton.
