Scott Laughton was the first trade the Toronto Maple Leafs made at the deadline as they sent Nikita Grebenkin and a 2027 conditional first-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers.
The veteran center was someone the team had their eyes on for quite some time and it was almost an inevitability that he would end up on the roster.
Last night, Laughton made his Maple Leafs debut alongside another trade deadline acquisition in former Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo.
Laughton got to play with Max Domi and Bobby McMann against the Colorado Avalanche, although unfortunately, the game did not go well for him.
He was a -2 for the entire game and finished with zero point, which is not the ideal start to ones tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
However, after the game, Scott Laughton ingratiated himself with the media by taking full responsibility for the loss. In fact, one can say that he was a bit too harsh on himself.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost three games in a row and it is their second time in three games giving up a third period lead.
Interestingly enough, the Leafs had not given up a lead like that all season up until last Monday's Amazon Prime game.
Overall, the Leafs are trying to make a deep playoff run this year and these kinds of mistakes are not going to help them in the least bit.
They are going to have to be better and everyone knows this. Although Scott Laughton definitely should not be getting most of the blame.
Everyone could be a lot better and that extends to the goalies as Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz have been mediocre as of late.
