Anthony Stolarz has been an absolute stud for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season as he has amassed a record of 9-5-2, all while posting a goals-against average of 2.15 and a save percentage of .927.
Unfortunately, the Leafs netminder went down with an injury on Thursday night as the team took on the Anaheim Ducks in Toronto.
Stolarz had just come off of a sensational performance against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night, where he stopped 37 out of 38 shots.
Given the performance of Joseph Woll throughout the season, head coach Craig Berube had been more than happy to split the games between his goaltenders.
However, after an epic performance, Berube felt it was good to give Stolarz a second start in a row. In the end, that second start only lasted on period.
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, Berube gave an update on his goalie after the game. Simply put, the team doesn't know much right now but they are hoping for good news.
On a positive note, the Maple Leafs ended up winning the game by a score of 3-2 and it was all thanks to Max Pacioretty's three-point night in which he scored two goals and nabbed an assist.
Meanwhile, Woll was solid in relief of Anthony Stolarz, stopping 19 of 20 shots in the win.
Overall, it was yet another phenomenal demonstration of how this Maple Leafs team has received exceptional goaltending so far this season.
Ultimately, Woll and Stolarz are two goaltenders that the team can trust, and this bodes well for them over the course of an 82-game season.
Of course, a lot of this optimism hinges on Stolarz remaining healthy, so fans will just have to wait and see.
