Anthony Stolarz got his second start in a row tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs are going up against the Anaheim Ducks.
In the first period of the match, Anthony Stolarz was able to turn aside a total of seven out of eight shots. The score of the game is 2-1 in favor of the Maple Leafs.
However, when the second period began, just moments ago, Anthony Stolarz was not on the ice and he was not on the bench either.
Instead, it was Joseph Woll who was manning the net for the Leafs, which led to some questions.
Subsequently, journalists began to hop on social media where they revealed what happened to Stolarz.
According to David Alter of The Hockey News, Stolarz went down with a lower-body injury and he will not be returning to the game tonight.
The decision to start Stolarz was a peculiar one given the fact that typically, the goalies get a 50-50 split.
However, Stolarz had earned his start against the Ducks considering he stopped 37 out of 38 shots on Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils.
Now, fans will just have to wait before we find out the full extent of this injury to Stolarz. Whatever the case may be, this is devastating.
At the end of the day, you never want to see a goalie go down with an injury, as their recovery time is usually a lot longer.
Hopefully, everything works out for Stolarz, and this is not going to be a long-term issue.
We can only hope.
