A terrible scene went down in the QMJHL last night as Justin Blais of the Gatineau Olympiques had to be stretchered off of the ice following a bad hit.

To be specific, Blais was in a scrum when he fell to the ice and hit his head pretty hard. That is when he began convulsing, which is always a horrifying scene. Eventually, he was taken off of the ice by medical staff. It was truly awful to witness, and you cannot help but feel immense empathy in these situations.

As reporter Mikael Lalancette noted, Blais was responsive.

"Very disturbing scene in Baie-Comeau, Justin Blais of the Olympiques' head hits the ice while falling during a skirmish. He falls into convulsions and has to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. Fortunately, he was conscious when he came out."

Eventually, the Olympiques took to social media where they offered up an update on Blais. Thankfully, he was taken to the hospital and seems to be doing okay. For now, he is undergoing tests.

"Justin Blais was taken as a precaution to a local hospital for further testing. He is alert and responsive."

Something similar albeit less serious happened in the NHL last night with Mike Reilly of the New York Islanders. He was hit hard and was on the ice for quite some time before getting up. Thankfully, he eventually left the ice under his own power.
