Gavin McKenna has been an exceptional talent at the WHL level. The 17-year-old currently has 106 points in 51 games this season and is on a 35-game point streak.
However, the Medicine Hat Tigers winger is now under tremendous scrutiny thanks to a disgusting slash he made on Josh Mori, who plays for the Edmonton Oil Kings.
Following a battle a long the boards, McKenna got upset and it led to a huge swing at the glove of Mori, who immediately went down in tremendous play, and for good reason.
Overall, it was a pretty shocking play as no one would have expected that from a kid who is expected to be a top pick in the 2026 WHL draft.
With that being said, the WHL was not going to let that one slide and McKenna was swiftly suspended for three games. It was the right call and now, he must think about his choices.
NHL teams will now unfortunately have to be thinking about stuff like this when it comes time to draft him next season.
There is no telling which teams might be in the running for a kid like McKenna, although he will definitely be on a tight leash going forward. Anymore funny business like this and he could ruin his draft stock.
Hopefully, this is not something we see a lot of from the kid in the future. Sometimes, these things happen on the ice and you get frustrated.
At the end of the day, the kid is just 17 years old and he is going to learn how to control his temper over time.
