Toronto Maple Leafs Turn Down Trade Offer From the Philadelphia Flyers Due to Ridiculous Ask
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team looking to make a big splash at the NHL trade deadline and it seems like the the Philadelphia Flyers are a potential business partner.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to add a center at the trade deadline, there have been numerous reports going around concerning who the team may work with.
One of those teams is the Philadelphia Flyers, who boast the services of Scott Laughton, a center who would certainly improve the Leafs' third line.
Toronto Maple Leafs trade deadline rumors
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Flyers reportedly offered Laughton to the Maple Leafs, however, general manager Brad Treliving was not impressed with what they wanted in return.
"...I know some teams have asked about Minten specifically. Like Philadelphia for example a month ago, the Scott Laughton discussion reignited and that didn't really get going anywhere because Minten was part of the ask." As Pagnotta explains, the only way Treliving makes a big move is if he includes Minten or even Easton Cowan in these talks. Otherwise, teams just aren't going to play ball and move a sought-after player.
"Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan, one of those guys, if you're making a bigger type splash, you're going to have include one of those guys in the discussion.
The first round pick next year, a lot of teams that are selling big pieces are looking at that because of how deep and how good the 2026 draft is projected to be, but barring that you're looking to have to give up either a Minten or a Cowan or one of your top young kids in order to make your splash." For now, the Maple Leafs may still make a big splash, and a Minten or Cowan trade could still very well happen.
However, it would take the right player for Treliving to want to do something so drastic in the middle of the season.
"I think Toronto is willing to go down that road but you're looking at somebody from a substantial move. Is it a guy like Schenn?
It's possible, but again for a deal of that magnitude to go down, the assets are one thing, and the cap is the other, and having to figure out how to navigate the cap right now, this season anyways, it can make things pretty difficult."
The Toronto Maple Leafs are on the verge of winning the Atlantic Division and their Stanley Cup chances have never been higher.
With that being said, there is a lot of pressure on this team to make a big move at the deadline, and fans are fascinated about whether or not Treliving will do it.
