$21 Million former Toronto Maple Leafs player put on waivers amid awful season
New York Islanders forward Pierre Engvall has been struggling this season, and the former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick is now paying the price for his play.
In the summer of 2023, Pierre Engvall signed a seven-year $21 million deal with the New York Islanders, that has turned out to be a complete disaster for the Long Island franchise.
Pierre Engvall put on Waivers amid awful start with the New York Islanders
During Engvall's first season under his new contract, he had 28 points in 74 games which isn't exactly lighting the world on fire.
So far this season, the left-winger has split his time between the Bridgeport Islanders and the main club.
With Bridgeport, he only has one goal in six games, while with the Islanders, Pierre Engvall has only been able to manage six points in 20 games.
With frustrations mounting around the former Toronto Maple Leafs forward, the Islanders have decided to put him on Waivers.
Pierre Engvall was not the only NYI player to be put on the waiver wire as Oliver Wahlstrom got hit with a similar fate.
At the end of the day, neither of these players have been living up to their contracts, and the New York Islanders have taken action as a result.
For Engvall, it remains to be seen what will happen to him going forward. He has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, but he is injury-prone.
The Maple Leafs could use an extra player on the left wing, so perhaps a reunion could be in the cards, although that contract is way too much to take on.
Hopefully, Engvall is able to get back on track and figure out a way to get his career on the straight and narrow.
