A chilling scene in Buffalo tonight as New York Islanders defenseman Mike Reilly went down with a horrible head injury thanks to a hit from Jordan Greenway.

In the clip below, you can see exactly what transpired here. Greenway delivered a massive hit on Reilly and Reilly immediately hit the ground. He smacked his head on the ice and for a while, he seemed unresponsive.

The trainers came out on the ice and the entire crowd fell silent. At one point, they even brought a stretcher out. However, it proved to be unnecessary in the end. Reilly was helped off of the ice by his teammates and he was conscious, which is always a good sign.

He got a big ovation from the crowd, who was clearly very happy to see that he was doing okay. Regardless, this was still a very scary scene that many were frightened by.

We have been seeing these plays a lot lately. While the game of hockey has always been dangerous, severe reactions to hits are becoming more and more the norm. Numderous games overseas have been stopped as of late with ambulances even getting involved at times.

This is certainly something worth considering. Perhaps equipment has gotten too big. Or maybe players aren't being trained to give and receive hits properly anymore. Either way, we just want to see everyone be safe, regardless of the situation at hand.
