Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Michael Bunting was involved in a car accident today prior to a game between his Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan broke the news about Michael Bunting's car accident on Sunday following the team's morning skate.

Sullivan noted that everyone involved was doing alright, however, Bunting would not be able to play against the Lightning later today.

"Everybody's OK, yeah. [Bunting] was involved in it, in an accident out there. He won't play tonight, but he's OK."

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette put out an article about the car accident, although they were not able to give a ton of details on what happened.

"Prior to Sunday's contest, Bunting was involved in a multiple-car accident that took place at the intersection of Washington Place and Centre Avenue. The intersection is adjacent to PPG Paints Arena, and right next to the Epiphany Roman Catholic Church."

For those who may not remember, Bunting played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2021 to 2023 before moving on to the Carolina Hurricanes and then the Penguins.

This season, Bunting has 13 goals and 12 assists in 43 games and has been quite consistent for them.

No matter what, this is a very scary situation and our thoughts are with everyone who was involved.

You never want to see something like this happen, especially in the winter when the road conditions are a whole lot worse.

Hopefully, everyone is able to get the support they need to get through all of this.
