Alex Steeves Walks Back Controversial Statement About Ditching the Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto Marlies forward Alex Steeves has been lighting the lamp in the AHL, however, his Toronto Maple Leafs opportunities have been few and far between.
Alex Steeves is becoming a free agent in the summer and there are a ton of rumors surrounding his future and what he might decide to do.
Despite being a goal-scoring machine in the AHL, the forward has not been given a fair shake in the NHL. He has played 11 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and it is clear that he is unhappy.

Months ago, Steeves noted that his time in Toronto could very well be coming to an end as he just wants a fair chance at the NHL level.
I hope it happens here. I really do, but I'm putting less pressure on myself because if it doesn't work out here, it's going to work out somewhere else."
However, in a new interview with the Toronto Sun, Steeves made it clear that the Leafs are still where his heart is.
...my focus is on the day-to-day, and good things will happen."
In 34 games this season, Steeves has 25 goals and 15 assists. He is going for the Marlies franchise record in goals.
Having said that, one has to wonder if he will ever truly get a chance to play with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization.
It feels like a now or never situation, and if the Leafs aren't going to play him then perhaps it would be best to let him go somewhere that would value him.
After all, the Maple Leafs have much bigger fish to fry come the summer.
