As the Toronto Maple Leafs faced the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, winger Mitch Marner played in his 600th NHL regular season game.

As seen on The Hockey News, Auston Matthews is never the one to miss an opportunity for humor and he joked postgame by saying :

"Almost a full pension," referencing the NHLPA collective agreement, which awards maximum pension benefits to players after 10 full seasons in the NHL.

Mitch Marner's milestone follows closely on the heels of defenseman Jake McCabe, who hit 600 games just two nights before against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Drafted as the fourth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, Marner has become a cornerstone for the Leafs by consistently delivering elite production.

Through his 600 games, he has scored 203 goals, 469 assists for 672 points and this is including a team-leading 33 points this season so far.

Auston Matthews is also approaching his own milestone being right now at 577 games and he might soon find the pension joke turned on him, which shows the consistency both stars have brought to the Maple Leafs.

Mitch Marner's durability and offensive skills shows why he remains one of Toronto's most valuable players as he continues to adavnace closer to the coveted 820-game mark for a full NHL pension.

The Leafs' ability to maintain core players like Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews has been essential to their success and these milestones remind them of their sustained excellence.

As Mitch Marner enjoys this moment, all eyes will soon shift to Auston Matthews who will likely reach the 600-game plateau later this season.
