St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn was one of the main targets of the Toronto Maple Leafs although he ended up turning them down to stay in St. Louis.

Trade deadline day was a whole lot of fun and it ended with the Toronto Maple Leafs securing the services of Brandon Carlo and Scott Laughton.

However, one player who seemed to be at the top of the team's radar was Brayden Schenn of the St. Louis Blues, who was reportedly being shopped around by the team.

Yesterday, it was reported that Schenn was approached with a trade to the Leafs but he ultimately turned it down and refused to waive his no-trade clause.

Brayden Schenn readies a St. Louis Blues playoff push

Recently, the Blues captain was asked why he chose to do that and whether or not it had anything to do with Toronto or the Leafs organization.

As it turns out, Brayden Schenn was simply trying to do something big in St. Louis. He loves the city and believes it is still possible for the team to make a deep run.

"It's no secret where my name was, tossed around. Just people texting me literally daily. Part of the business. Obviously, a little tough to deal with. At the end of the day, I've always said, I love being a Blue. I love playing here.

I feel like we've got a good thing going on, and we're going to make a push to the playoffs. I feel I couldn't go out there and quit on my teammates. It's important for us to keep on taking steps here and we're going to do everything we can to get in."

This is definitely wishful thinking on the part of Schenn when you consider how the Leafs are already in a playoff spot and would likely go further than the Blues.

However, Schenn would have likely cost the Leafs more than Laughton which then brings into question whether or not they would have had the assets to pull off the Carlo move.

Ultimately, the Leafs came away from the trade deadline just fine and the fanbase appears to be content with what they were able to get.

Only time will tell whether or not this Maple Leafs team truly has what it takes now to go on a deep playoff run that fans have been wishing for, forever.
