The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team in need of a third-line center, however, for months, fans have forgotten that they have one in Calle Jarnkrok.
He has been dealing with a sports hernia and has been on the long-term injured reserve as a result of this.
Over the past few weeks, Jarnkrok has been hanging around the team and making it seem as though he is readying a comeback.
In fact, today, Jarnkrok was spotted at Maple Leafs practice where he was working with return-to-play staff.
Unfortunately, there is no timeline yet for his return. That said, there is a prevailing notion that he will be back before the end of the season and that he will be ready for a playoff run.
This news puts a huge wrench in Brad Treliving's trade deadline plans as the general manager has been jonesing to trade for a Center.
The plan is to get a third-line center so that Max Domi can go back to the wing. However, Jarnkrok is a center and would be the perfect player to pair with Domi, Nick Robertson or Bobby McMann.
Not to mention, it would be a lot more cost-effective for the Maple Leafs if they didn't need to give up assets for the type of player they already have in-house.
There have been reports that the team wants Yanni Gourde and Brock Nelson, but that may cost them a first-round pick.
Needless to say, it would be a nice gift if Jarnkrok were to become available here down the stretch.
