Craig Berube Calls Out Refs for Questionable Decision that Could Have Lost the Maple Leafs the Game
Craig Berube expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance in a gritty contest against the New York Islanders.
The game was a hard-fought battle, and Craig Berube highlighted the team's effort, pace and defensive improvements during the game tonight.
Craig Berube compliments his Maple Leafs
«I liked our game, pretty much. I thought we played with a lot of pace tonight. It was a hard game. I thought the Islanders were good and difficult to play against. I thought we did a good job.
Our goalie was good. In the first period, we gave up some chances off of three odd-man rushes. He was big. That was big for us to get the saves there.
After that, we didn't give up odd-man rushes for most of the rest of the game. We checked hard, and we got a big power-play goal. We killed some penalties, which was key.
We had Max's penalty, and then the too-many-men penalty was kind of a tough play. I don't know if it is a penalty, really, but it is what it is. We killed it off. That was the difference in the game.»
The team tightened up defensively as the game progressed which was minimizing the opportunities for the Islanders and Craig Berube praised his team's defensive adjustments.
Specials team were the biggest factor in the win since they successfully killed penalties which was including one for too many men on the ice, which Berube described as a «tough play" and he acknowledged the importance of those kills.
Craig Berube's comments reflected a balanced perspective and noted improvement areas while recognizing the team's resilience and strong execution during the match.
The power-play goal and solid penalty killing were really decisive last night and helped the team secure a crucial win against a tough opponent.
It was a performance that underscored their ability to compete at a high level, and it brings some hope for this year's run for the playoffs.
