Oliver Ekman-Larsson was one of the best free-agent signings that the Maple Leafs made last summer.
The defenseman has quickly become one of the best and most beloved players on the team and for good reason and he always plays at a high level, night in and night out.
Unfortunately, Ekman-Larsson went down with an injury on Saturday night during a game against the Edmonton Oilers.
The defenseman was not on the bench throughout the second period and eventually, it was reported that he would not return.
After the game, Craig Berube was asked about the injury and whether or not OEL would miss significant time. For now, Berube can only say that the D-man is day-to-day.
Prior to this injury, Ekman-Larsson had three goals and 21 points with a net rating of +15.
Overall, these are some very impressive stats and there is no doubt that the Maple Leafs are going to miss him on this road trip, especially if he misses more than just one game.
Having said that, Berube's comments are somewhat optimistic that the injury isn't serious. Either way, not an ideal situation.
The Maple Leafs have been injury-prone all season long and this does not help them in the slightest.
The Leafs must now prepare for the Calgary Flames after an emotional 4-3 win against the Oilers.
