When the season started, Woll was injured which cleared the way for Anthony Stolarz to showcase exactly what he can do.
For the most part, Stolarz stood on his head and many fans felt like he should be the starter, especially with Woll having a bit of a slow start.
However, Woll began to get his groove back and fans, as well as Craig Berube, decided that it would probably be best to have these two goalies split the games 50/50.
While this seemed like a solid plan at first, it has become exceptionally clear that the Maple Leafs and Craig Berube have no choice but to crown an official starter.
That starter, of course, should be none other than Joseph Woll, who has been on an absolute tear over the course of the last five games.
He has won five matches in a row, including last night against the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he stopped 38 of 41 shots.
He was the third star of the week in the NHL last week, and his statistics are backing up his case to become the team's official starter.
Stolarz would still be a very solid and reliable backup, but the Leafs should feel more comfortable with Woll tending the goal right now.
He is proving himself to be the goalie that the Maple Leafs thought he would be, and this bodes well for the team moving forward.
As it stands, the Leafs lead the Atlantic Division with a record of 14-7-2, and with Woll as the starter, they have an opportunity to continue building upon that lead.
