NHL insider Elliotte Friedman made some interesting comments about Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs as it pertains to their top target at the trade deadline.

Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs are under tremendous scrutiny at the trade deadline as they have yet to make a move that could improve the roster.

The team's biggest rivals in the Atlantic Division are wheeling and dealing which has left the Leafs in the dust, and fans are starting to get especially worried about what's next.

Brad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs have work to do

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was on "Leafs Morning Take," where he offered up some insight on the Maple Leafs and what they hope to accomplish before Friday at 3PM EST.

As it stands, Brad Treliving's top trade target is St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn.

However, Friedman noted that in order to acquire a guy like Schenn, the Leafs will have to reconcile with parting ways from Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten, or Ben Danford.

"I think the guy they have done the most research on is Schenn and the most internal thought on is Schenn. I've heard that a lot. I think they've really weighed it internally. It's a big price, right? If they're going to do it, it's probably going to cost them two of those things that we talked about (Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, 2026 first-round pick)...There's no question in my mind the player they've have thought about the most and analyzed the most is Brayden Schenn."

It is going to be hard for Treliving to do that, however, he has absolutely no choice, especially if teams like the Blues are going to play hardball.

Schenn would be a great addition to the roster, and he would give this team a huge injection of offense, particularly in the bottom-six where the Leafs have struggled mightily.

In 63 games this season, the Blues captain has 38 points and 12 goals. Overall, this is much better than Max Domi, who only has four goals all season.

Needless to say, Friday is going to be fascinating and Maple Leafs fans are hoping and praying for some kind of miracle.
