Morgan Rielly has largely underperformed for the Toronto Maple Leafs this season and a lot of fans are concerned about whether or not something is wrong with him.
Rielly only has five goals and 14 assists so far this season which is well off of his usual pace.
To make things worse, he has a net rating of -10 which is not good for a guy who is supposed to be the number one defenseman on the roster.
Today, NHL analyst and Toronto Maple Leafs superfan Steve Dangle attempted to explain what exactly is going on with Rielly.
Although he doesn't have all of the answers, he and co-host Adam Wylde suggested that perhaps becoming a new father has drained the defenseman of his energy.
When you have an infant child at home, sometimes, you end up losing out on a lot of sleep.
In the eyes of Dangle, this could be a huge contributor for why Morgan Rielly is not performing like his usual self.
Having said that, both men agreed that once the playoffs come around, there is a very high likelihood that Rielly is going to turn a new Leafs (no pun intended) and get back to his usual self.
Rielly even scored the overtime winner against the Philadelphia Flyers last night which could be an indication that the defenseman has officially exercised his demons.
Hopefully, we can watch the defenseman thrive moving forward as the Leafs are much more fun to watch when the assistant captain is playing his best.
