Friday was a massive day in the NHL as the New York Rangers traded Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks in a blockbuster deal that fans had been waiting on.
Heading into the season, everyone knew there was going to be some drama between the Rangers and Trouba.
At a cap hit of $8 million, there were very few executives within the Rangers organization who were interested in continuing to pay Trouba.
However, at the start of the season, Trouba delivered a list of 15 teams he would refuse a trade to. This list was not what the Rangers had been promised and it led to tension.
It was reported by Bruce Garrioch that the Rangers had a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets ready to go, however, Trouba vetoed it.
Subsequently, he got moved to Anaheim, a team with a young core that has struggled to reach its true potential.
Garrioch also revealed that all seven Canadian teams were on Trouba's veto list.
Essentially, the Toronto Maple Leafs and six other Canadian rosters were given the ultimate form of preemptive disrespect.
At the end of the day, Trouba is a player who has lost his step, and the Maple Leafs shouldn't feel bad that they ended up losing out on him.
As it stands, the defensive core of the team is going to be just fine without Trouba and his hits that are purely done for highlight reel clips.
However, the Leafs did lose to the Washington Capitals last night.
Tonight, they will have an opportunity to avenge the loss against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
