Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is currently in a new contract negotiation and fans have been concerned about how much money he is going to make.

John Tavares is one of the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs this season as he has 21 goals and 45 points so far.

He is now in the midst of a contract negotiation and fans are wondering what kind of extension he will be privy to.

John Tavares Toronto Maple Leafs contract

With his performance this season, there have been all sorts of rumors that Tavares will be getting a contract that is simply worth too much for the Leafs.

However, according to The Fourth Period, it is now being said that the forward and the Maple Leafs have a deal in place worth $7 million per year.

John Tavares remains focused on staying with the Leafs, and there has been talk of a three-year extension that still needs some fine-tuning, though nothing has been confirmed. His AAV is expected to decrease, likely landing in the $7 million range.

The deal would last three years and it is believed that Tavares and the Leafs still have some details to work out.

Of course, the salary cap is going up so that is going to help the Maple Leafs with their payroll situation.

Moreover, the Leafs also have to go out and sign guys like Mitch Marner and Matthew Knies, who will also get big contracts.

Whatever the case may be, the Leafs will have to spend a lot of money to keep this current roster together.

However, the results on the ice are worth it, and GM Brad Treliving is well-aware of that.
