The Sabres entered their game against the Maple Leafs on Sunday evening with a glimmer of hope, even though they had lost their previous nine games in brutal fashion.
That glimmer of hope was certainly present during the first period of yesterday's game, with the Buffalo Sabres taking an early 2-0 lead on the Maple Leafs.
However, things eventually turned nightmarish as John Tavares scored a hat trick and won the game for his team.
The final score was 5-3 and as previously mentioned, this turned out to be the Sabres' 10th loss in a row.
After the game, Lindy Ruff was asked about the performance and what needs to change for this Sabres team to be successful.
He was almost at a loss for words, although he did mention the fact that all of this ultimately falls on him, and he needs to do better.
You can't help but feel for Lindy Ruff, who seems to be genuinely dejected by everything that is going on with his team right now.
The Buffalo Sabres organization has been an abject failure for years at this point and the fans are beginning to run out of patience.
It might be difficult to support a team like this, especially since we are coming up on 15 years without a single solitary playoff berth.
Something has got to change.
