Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe got injured on Sunday night following a play involving Garnet Hathaway and now, the team must make a move.

Jake McCabe got into a fight with Garnet Hathaway on Sunday night and unfortunately, it led to a significant hit to the head that forced McCabe out of the game.

Jake McCabe is out and Marshall Rifai is in for the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs defenseman never returned to the ice, much to the chagrin of fans, teammates, and coaching staff.

Today, it was revealed by the team that they had to place McCabe on the injured reserve as there is no exact timeline for his return.

Essentially, he is day-to-day and the team will evaluate him periodically to see if he feels ready to get back on the ice.

Meanwhile, in order to fulfill the team's roster needs, the Maple Leafs have called up Marshall Rifai from the Toronto Marlies.

Rifai is a player who has been called up often so far this season, although seldom does he actually get playing time with the team.

In fact, the Beaconsfield native has not played a single game with the Maple Leafs this season.

He played two games with the Leafs last season, and for now, he remains a guy that the team is interested in using in emergency situations.

One has to wonder when Marshall Rifai will get his big break in the National Hockey League, although we're sure he hopes for it to happen soon.

As for Jake McCabe, we wish him nothing but the best in his recovery going forward. You never want to see a player go down in that fashion.
