Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Pittsburgh Penguins and ended up losing the game by a score of 5-2 in what was a truly poor effort from the roster.

Last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Washington Capitals and lost by a score of 3-1 in an effort that was just as bad.

Prior to these two games, the Maple Leafs had won 10 of their last 12, so it should not be surprising that the team is a bit gassed.

Moreover, the team has had plenty of guys return from injury, including Max Pacioretty, so perhaps the chemistry was just a tiny bit off.

While the team did, in fact, lose tonight, the bright side is that Mitch Marner got another goal and an assist, while Matthews added two assists to the score sheet.

William Nylander also had a goal in the game, as he has been the team's leading scorer throughout the season.

Maple Leafs lose again

These individual stats are not very impressive to the fans, who saw the Maple Leafs engage in one of their worst efforts of the entire year.

In the Tweets down below, you can see just how angry fans were with the performance. Some even lashed out at captain Auston Matthews.

Fans React

The Maple Leafs have a couple of games this week where they will attempt to right their wrongs and get back on track.

This was the first time the Maple Leafs had lost back-to-back games in over a month of action, which showcases the run this squad has had.

With the loss, the Leafs drop to a record of 16-9-2.
