Matthew Knies reveals how John Tavares transformed his game

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies has been on a tear so far this year and as a member of the top line, he has certainly shown flashes of greatness.

According to The Hockey News, Knies recently spoke about what has been making him extra effective on the ice this season. A lot of it comes down to the fact that Knies is getting into those dirty areas and is using his size. This creates scoring chances that he can then capitalize on.

"I'm a bigger player, so I like to take [the goalie's] eyes and just make plays down there," Knies said. "Let the skill guys be on the outside and make those plays. They make incredible plays, so I just got to, you know, put my stick in a good area, and I'm sure they can find me."

Knies also spoke about his time living with John Tavares and how the former Maple Leafs captain embraced him and showed him superior work ethic. Essentially, Knies revealed that Tavares was always working on tip drills so that he could get more goals in front of the net.

"After every practice, he's out there just working on tips, little plays around the net, keeping his head up, his footwork, keeping his body in front of it, stuff like that," Knies said. "It looks easy, but it's definitely harder than it seems."

Having this kind of leadership around does wonders for younger players and Knies is a prime example of this. Hopefully, we continue to see Knies dominate with this team for years to come.
