Matthew Knies has been a sensational story with the Toronto Maple Leafs as he has continued to develop his game, all while proving to be a productive force on the team's top line.
So far this season, Knies has managed 10 goals and five assists in a 22-game span. It's been impressive and fans are certainly happy with the production.
Soon, Knies will be up for a new contract and there is no doubt that many have anticipated the kind of deal that Knies would get.
According to The Fourth Period, there is an interesting development in the contract negotiations between Knies and the Leafs.
Essentially, both sides want very different things right now, although, they have begun the process of resuming contract talks.
On one hand, you have the Maple Leafs who would like to lock Knies in for the long haul.
However, Knies would prefer a bridge deal of 3-4 years. Of course, this is so that he can maximize his earnings, instead of being locked into something for eight seasons.
There is a possibility that the contract talks go all the way into the offseason which is definitely not an ideal scenario in the slightest.
Either way, getting Knies locked in would be the best for the Maple Leafs, who have a ton of amazing players right now.
This team is on a tear to start the year, and Knies is a big reason as to why.
