Former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe received a special tribute on Thursday, however, the major problem is that he completely missed it.

As head coach of the New Jersey Devils, Sheldon Keefe has done a pretty great job, although now, he has to do it in the playoffs.

On Thursday night, the head coach actually returned to Toronto for the first time where his team faced off against the franchise he could never get over the hump.

During the game, the Toronto Maple Leafs put up a tribute to Keefe on their jumbotron.

Fans gave the former head coach a warm welcome, however, there was one major issue here: Keefe didn't even know it was happening.

"To be honest, I didn't see it. You're into the game and I kind of lost track of it. For them to take the time to acknowledge me, I'm very appreciative. Disappointed we don't leave with two points, but I probably owed the Leafs an extra point."

Of course, he got around to watching it and there is no doubt that he was moved by what he saw.

Having said that, it was not the result that he was hoping for as the Maple Leafs defeated the Devils by a score of 4-3 in overtime.

The Maple Leafs and the Devils have played each other three times this season and the Leafs have won every single matchup.

Based on this statistic, it would appear as though Keefe might be cursed by his former team.

Either way, the Devils continue to do well in the Metropolitan division, while the Maple Leafs are leading the Atlantic.

Only time will tell which of these two teams finish with the better record, and the better postseason.
