Ray Ferraro Sends a Message to Maple Leafs Fans Amid Relentless Morgan Rielly Criticism
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been incessantly criticized by fans this season although Ray Ferraro believes expectations need to change.
Morgan Rielly has had a few seasons where he has logged over 50 assists while also noting over 70 points.
However, he isn't even close to that pace this season and it has led to a lot of criticism, especially when you factor in his net rating of -16.
Ray Ferraro comes to Morgan Rielly's defense
Recently, Ray Ferraro was on Leafs Morning Take where he spoke about Rielly's struggles and whether or not the criticism has been fair.
It was here where the former NHL star made comparisons to his own career, noting how some guys have career years and that you can't judge their other seasons based on their outliers.
"I was not a 40 goal scorer, but I did it twice, right? If you expected 27 goals from me, you were probably pretty happy. If you were looking for 40, there were 16 years you weren't very happy."
It is an interesting analysis although it leaves out the fact that Rielly has been completely useless as it pertains to the defensive end.
There are times when he is standing idle at the side of the net, allowing opposing forwards to get into the slot.
His physical play has not been at a level that is necessary for a number-one defenseman and it just feels like Rielly is not engaged,
If you are a Leafs fan, you can't help but wonder if there is something wrong with him, such as an injury or perhaps maybe a personal matter.
With the playoffs quickly approaching, the Maple Leafs are hoping that Rielly can get himself together.
