Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves has not been getting much ice time as of late and the emergence of Alex Steeves could spell the end for him going forward.

Alex Steeves had a spectacular weekend with the Toronto Maple Leafs as he scored his first-career goal against the Carolina Hurricanes, while also adding an assist.

Meanwhile, Ryan Reaves was a healthy scratch for two games in a row as the Leafs are currently prioritizing their offense.

Toronto Maple Leafs turn their back on Ryan Reaves

In just one game, Steeves was able to match Reaves' entire points total in 33 games this season. Reaves has two assists which just isn't good enough.

What makes things worse as it pertains to Reaves is the fact that he is an enforcer who has only managed to get into one fight so far this season.

That is just not good enough at this point and as Kevin Papetti pointed out, Steeves' production should open the Maple Leafs' eyes.

Not to mention, Calle Jarnkrok should be coming back soon which means Reaves would be even less useful to the forward core.

Moreover, Connor Dewar is also working his way back to the ice, and that hurts Reaves as well. We are now at a stage where it would just be better to trade him or put him on waivers.

Reaves is a player who is on the verge of retirement anyway, and it may just be time to let go and say goodbye, especially with the playoffs on the horizon.

He does not have the same grit anymore and for the Leafs, that was the whole reason of bringing him on board last season.
