San Jose Sharks defenseman Timothy Liljegren was traded by the Toronto Maple Leafs early on in the NHL season and recently, he spoke about his experience.

When you think about players who didn't necessarily get a fair shake in Toronto, you should look no further than defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

The Swedish national was the 17th overall pick in the 2017 draft and he was supposed to be the next great Maple Leafs defenseman behind Morgan Rielly.

Unfortunately, in his last season with the team, he struggled mightily at times, and the team ended up sending him packing to the Sharks.

This season has been more of the same for Liljegren as he has a net rating of -18 in 47 games, while only notching five goals and 10 points.

Tonight, the defenseman is back in Toronto to take on his former team on Amazon Prime's Monday Night Hockey.

Prior to the game, Timothy Liljegren spoke to The Athletic where he gave his thoughts on his final year with the team and whether or not he had any ill-will towards the franchise.

«I thought I had a good run stuff happens.

Stuff doesn't always go the way you want in terms of how you're playing. I didn't really start the year very well here. It's a business. Trades happen.»

Tonight's game against the San Jose Sharks will be an interesting one for the Maple Leafs as various players will be looking to prove their worth before the trade deadline.

Furthermore, the team is currently on a five-game winning streak and there is an expectation that they bring it to six against a team like the San Jose Sharks.

As for Timothy Liljegren, there is no telling what kind of game he will have tonight and whether or not the Maple Leafs crowd gets to him.
