Through 35 games this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have amassed a record of 21-12-2 which is good enough for second place in the NHL's Atlantic Division.
Up until a few days ago, the Maple Leafs had sole possession of first place in the division, however, that has withered away due to the emergence of the Florida Panthers.
The defending cup champions are having themselves a grand old time. and the Leafs have lost two in a row, which has put them down a peg.
Unfortunately, the Leafs are now running out of breathing room, as it's not just the Panthers who are coming on strong.
As you can see, just eight points separate the first and fifth place teams in the Atlantic Division.
After a horrible start, the Boston Bruins are now just two points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Two points behind them are the Tampa Bay Lighting and another two points behind them are the Ottawa Senators.
This is making things very tough on the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially with Anthony Stolarz and Auston Matthews out of the lineup.
If they continue to lose games, they could find themselves relegated to a Wild Card spot, which feels unfair given how well they have played.
Needless to say, the Maple Leafs will have to figure it out, and they are going to need to figure it out fast.
