William Nylander called out by Maple Leafs fans following his dismissive comments
Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander scored a goal against the Pittsburgh Penguins but it was not enough to overcome a poor defensive and offensive effort.
William Nylander and his Maple Leafs teammates have lost two games in a row for the first time since October, thanks to poor performances against the Penguins and the Washington Capitals.
On Saturday night, the Penguins prevailed by a score of 5-2, and fans were not at all happy with the way that the Maple Leafs played.
However, there have been all sorts of excuses being leveled by Maple Leafs players, who seem to be a bit disillusioned to how badly the Maple Leafs performed.
For instance, after last night's game, William Nylander spoke to the media and tried to make it seem like the Leafs put up a valiant effort.
William Nylander thought the Maple Leafs were better
In fact, Nylander claims that the Leafs were the better team and deserved to win, through and through.
Sometimes you play good games and don't get a win. And that happened tonight.
This is a take that was absolutely ridiculed by all of the fans out there who watched the game and actually know a whole lot better than that.
"The whole team coasted all game. The line actually skating was the 4th line. Embarrassing effort. They should've gotten 2 PTS minimum Friday/Saturday. At the very least I was expecting 3," one fan wrote.
These takes were very common on social media, and you can see many of them down below.
Fans heavily disagree
The Maple Leafs have games on Tuesday and Thursday this week, so they will have opportunities to get themselves back on track.
For now, they continue to stay near the top of the Atlantic Division standings with a record of 16-9-2.
