In Team Canada's first game against Team Sweden, defenseman Shea Theodore suffered a wrist injury that is going to keep him out for weeks.
Meanwhile, some troubling news came out about Cala Makar this morning that sent the team into a bit of a frenzy.
According to a report from Elliotte Friedman, Makar was not at practice today as he was suffering from an undisclosed illness.
As a result, Travis Sanheim was practicing with Drew Doughty, although the team was down to just five defenseman.
This forced Team Canada to call in Thomas Harley who is the emergency backup defenseman for the squad. Of course, with Team USA on Saturday, there were some serious fears about what Makar missing the game might look like.
Thankfully, an update after the fact from head coach Jon Cooper suggests that Makar will be good to go on Saturday.
This is a huge relief for Team Canada as Makar is easily one of the best players on the entire team.
Team Canada vs. Team USA could be a preview of the biggest game of the tournament.
These teams are expected to fight for the championship, and with Canada beating Sweden, the path has become that much easier, even with a loss to the Americans on Saturday.
Only time will tell whether or not this Canadian team can overcome its Goaltending deficiencies and triumph over its Southern rival.
