Team USA defenseman Charlie McAvoy was recently hospitalized for an upper-body injury and a new statement from the Boston Bruins has brought some bad news.

Charlie McAvoy was sent to the hospital on Monday after suffering a minor upper-body injury at the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Earlier today, it was revealed that the Boston Bruins defenseman was dealing with an infection and that his status for Thursday's final was up in the air.

Unfortunately, just moments ago, the Bruins put out a statement on McAvoy that confirmed his status for the 4 Nations Face-Off rematch against Canada.

It has been revealed that the defenseman will not play in the Championship Game and for now, the Bruins still don't have a ton of update's on McAvoy's condition.

They did confirm that they would keep fans updated as soon as more information becomes available.

Overall, this is a very sad update for Team USA as McAvoy has been crucial for their success throughout the tournament.

The defenseman had four huge hits against Team Canada and two of them were on Connor McDavid while the others were on Sidney Crosby.

That kind of energy was critical to the team's win, but now, the Americans must go on without him which is not going to be an easy task.

You have to feel for Team USA and you also have to feel for the Boston Bruins who now have to go through a harrowing situation.

We wish McAvoy a speedy recovery and we hope that this isn't more serious than the team is letting on.
