NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly is always looking for ways to grow the game, and of course, one of the best ways to do that is through expansion teams.

The 4 Nations Face-Off is proving to everyone that hockey is growing at an exponential rate right now and for all of the right reasons.

With that in mind, it is the perfect time to talk about NHL expansion or perhaps even relocation of current franchises that are struggling in their market.

Is the NHL expanding soon?

Plenty of cities have been named over the past couple of years, including Atlanta, Houston, Omaha, Quebec City, and many more.

However, according to a new report from Kevin Weekes, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed that there is an ownership group who wants to bring an NHL franchise to New Orleans.

In speaking to Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly and other sources involved, I can confirm that there was a recent meeting in NYC with a group expressing their interest in bringing an NHL expansion team to New Orleans.

New Orleans would truly be an incredible addition to the NHL family just based off of the culture of the city alone.

However, an NHL franchise is in the city is absolutely doomed to fail and it's hard to imagine this actually working out.

Louisiana is not a hockey state and it's just a bit too "deep south" for it to work out. While Texas and Florida have made it work, it's hard to imagine Louisiana making it and not Georgia.

Of course, this is a very rough idea right now and it has not been confirmed by the NHL or any party just yet.

However, this is a unique idea and one has to wonder what a NOLA hockey franchise would look like.
