Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was at the first game of the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday and the Montreal crowd did not appreciate his presence.

Team Canada and Team Sweden played in the first game of the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday night and it was Canada who came away victorious.

Mitch Marner scored the game-winner and his Maple Leafs teammate Auston Matthews in attendance for the festivities.

Auston Matthews 4 Nations Face-Off Debut

The first game was in Montreal and prior to puck drop, captains of all four teams were brought out and introduced.

Of course, Matthews was in hostile territory as the Montreal faithful do not live players from the Maple Leafs. Not to mention, Auston plays for Team USA which is a double whammy.

Unsurprisingly, the superstar goal scorer was met with a chorus of boos in the arena and they were by far the biggest boos of the entire evening.

Matthews was not the only Maple Leafs star to get booed as William Nylander also got it before the game.

Tonight, the captain will be looking to start the 4 Nations Face-Off with a bang as Team USA takes on Team Finland.

USA is one of the favorites to win the tournament although Canada definitely looks scary right now.

Finland is heavily depleted and is easily the weakest team in the tournament. Despite this, Team USA will still have to work hard to avoid an upset.

With the first game being a huge success, it is going to be very easy to see how the rest of the tournament shakes out.
