Auston Matthews receives horrible injury news ahead of Boston Bruins game
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will not be playing tonight against the Boston Bruins.
According to a report from the official Leafs PR account on X, it was noted that Matthews is currently suffering from an upper-body injury. As a result of all of this, he will be day-to-day from here on out.
This news comes amid some recent struggles for Matthews and the Maple Leafs. After 69 goals last season, Matthews is only on pace to get 31 right now. Being injured certainly does not help his cause, whatsoever. Meanwhile, the team has lost its last two games. One loss against the St. Louis Blues and the other against the Minnesota Wild.
Auston Matthews is out against the Bruins
With Matthews out, the game against the Bruins is going to be a lot more difficult to win. What does help the Leafs, however, is the fact that the Bruins have not been great this year. The Leafs and Bruins each have six wins in 13 games. However, thanks to one extra overtime loss, the Leafs have an extra point.
Regardless, this is probably not the news that Leafs fans wanted to wake up to this morning. They will just have to ride out this upcoming game with a little bit of extra optimism. No matter what, the results of this match are going to lead to some talking points.
