In the midst of all of this, it was reported by Kevin Weekes that Boston Bruins standout Trent Frederic could very well become a trade target around the league. He is a UFA this summer and has continuously gotten better over the years.
The Bruins would prefer to not lose him for absolutely nothing. This would mean they may want to come through with a trade in the not-so-distant future. Having said that, the Toronto Maple Leafs are a potential landing spot.
As Chris Gerics of Hockey Patrol argues, there are plenty of reasons why the Leafs would want Frederic. In the last two seasons, he has 35 goals and is a lot more productive than some of the team's current depth guys. David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok are two players that could be dangled as trade bait if push comes to shove.
Having said that, the Leafs are missing over $2 million in cap space to make this happen. Overall, this is why they would need to move some players in order to welcome Frederic with open arms. No matter what, the next few months will be fascinating.
