During the offseason, Tanev chose to play with the Toronto Maple Leafs as opposed to the Stars, and tonight, the defenseman finally gets to play his former team.
Tanev's tenure with the Stars was very brief has he was acquired in a trade from the Calgary Flames.
However, he did go on a fairly significant playoff run with the Dallas Stars as they made it to the Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers.
Prior to tonight's Maple Leafs and Stars tilt, Chris Tanev ended up getting put on the jumbotron for the briefest of video tributes.
In fact, there wasn't even a highlight reel. All fans got was Tanev skating around the ice with a Thank You card tacked on at the end.
During his time with the Dallas Stars, Tanev recorded one regular season goal and four assists.
Meanwhile, in the postseason, he had a total of zero goals and two assists.
That said, Tanev has found some new life with the Maple Leafs this season.
Through 31 games, he has one goal and eight assists and has been incredibly solid for this Leafs blueline.
It is very clear that Tanev is a beast and that the franchise is lucky to have him right now.
Hopefully, he can help the Leafs finish out this game and get the road win.
