However, in a new report from Nick Barden of The Hockey News, we finally have some clarity on what is ailing Jarnkrok. Effectively, he has been dealing with a Sports Hernia. While these injuries aren't always extremely serious, they sometimes require surgery. They are also immensely uncomfortable.
Thankfully, Jarnkrok is back on the ice, finally. On Tuesday morning, Jarnkrok participated in his team's morning skate. In fact, he was on the ice before everyone else as he warmed up and tried to get himself back in the swing things. Of course, Jarnkrok remains on the long-term injured reserve.
As it stands, the Leafs are in a bit of a pickle. Jani Hakanpaa and Connor Dewar are on conditioning stints with the Marlies and when they return, the team will have too many players to consider taking Jarnkrok off of LTIR. In that case, they would have to make some sort of trade.
Jarnkrok is 33 years old and is in the third year of a four-year contract that pays him $2.1 million per year. Having said that, he isn't costing the Maple Leafs too much money. However, we're sure they would prefer to get some upgrades at a few positions at this point.
