Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is currently out of the team's lineup due to a mysterious injury that many fans have been trying to figure out.

Today, head coach Craig Berube hit fans and reporters with some somewhat bad news as it pertains to Matthews. When asked if he would play this weekend, Berube didn't have much to say at all. Instead, he may have hinted that this injury could end up dragging on for a lot longer.

Auston Matthews gets an update

«That's to be determined still. It's hard for me to answer that question knowing what I know right now with him today.»

Matthews did not participate at practice today and there is no timetable for when he will officially make a return to the ice. This is all very bad news for Leafs fans, who want to see Matthews get back to those heights that everyone knows he is capable of.

In his first absence with the team on Tuesday, his Leafs defeated the Boston Bruins by a score of 4-0. Meanwhile, the Leafs will be taking on the Detroit Red Wings on Friday. Then, they get to play the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. For now, it seems like Matthews will not be in the lineup for any of that. It is sad, but that is the reality right now.
