When Craig Berube took over the Toronto Maple Leafs, there were a lot of things to fix, especially in terms of the lack of physicality that had plagued this team.
Under Sheldon Keefe, the Leafs used to give up a lot of leads, especially because they would refuse to play physically, and it would give teams the energy to come back.
Had the Maple Leafs been more tactful with their leads, perhaps they would have been a lot better in the playoffs.
Whatever the case may be, it is very clear that Craig Berube has been a godsend for this franchise.
We say that because according to NHL stats, the Leafs have given up the fewest blown leads in the league so far this season.
In the first 33 games of the NHL season, Toronto has only given up two blown leads, which puts them first in the league.
The Dallas Stars, the Florida Panthers, and the New York Rangers are all tied for second in this category.
It wouldn't take much for the Maple Leafs to no longer lead in this category. However, it won't be tonight as they are losing to the New York Islanders by a score of 3-1.
No matter what, it remains clear that Craig Berube is a good coach who has this Leafs team playing some truly inspired hockey.
Hopefully, this continues throughout the entire NHL season, as the Leafs look to prove that they can play the highest level.
