Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews will be missing a second-straight game with an injury and according to Craig Berube, the situation isn't improving.

Matthews has officially been ruled out for today's game against the Winnipeg Jets, and as it turns out, the captain could miss even more time after re-aggravating his upper-body injury.

Craig Berube offers update on Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews

With the captain forced to miss more time, head coach Craig Berube has had to answer numerous questions regarding the injury.

Today, he was asked about what Auston Matthews' status is going forward, although it seems like the priority is to just get the captain some rest.

«He's going to rest over the break and hopefully he comes back in a lot better shape.»

Berube did have one concerning statement to make as he noted that Matthews has struggled to get better and it is always one step forward, two steps back.

«He gets relief at times, but it's not good enough.»

When asked if Matthews would play on Friday Berube was pretty non-committal, although this kind of response is not that surprising.

«We've got to see whether he responds over the next few days.»

Today is a big day for the Maple Leafs as they are taking on the best team in the entire National Hockey League.

Of course, the Leafs were the first team to hand the Jets a loss this season, so they definitely know the method to win.

Regardless, it is going to be a fascinating game.
