Upon Mitch Marner's return to the Maple Leafs lineup a few days ago, head coach Craig Berube decided to put him on a line with John Tavares and William Nylander.
There were high expectations for this line, but by the third period of last night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, Craig Berube had enough.
Nylander, Marner, and Tavares were not producing and fans could tell that the line was absolutely awful.
Consequently, Max Pacioretty was brought up to the second line and Max Domi was sent from the first line to the third line.
Meanwhile, Mitch Marner got to go back to the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
It was too little too late for the Maple Leafs who lost the game by a score of 2-1 in yet another low-scoring loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
As for Marner and Nylander, it might be time to start raising some red flags about these two and their relationship with one another.
In the playoffs last season, there were a few times when Nylander was visibily frustrated with Marner and even belittled him a couple of times.
Their latest stint as linemates was a tough watch and it appeared as though the two had zero chemistry with one another. While it may not be as bad as Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, it could be getting there if the Leafs are not careful.
Perhaps we are reading too much into this one, but it is clear that some fans feel the same way we do about all of this.
