Craig Berube offers sobering update on Auston Matthews' injury
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been struggling with an upper-body injury and he has actually been out of the lineup for quite some time now.
In fact, he has missed a total of six games since his injury was declared. This is not great news for the Leafs, although they have managed without him.
The team has won five of their last six games and they currently boast a record of 11-6-2.
So far, the team is looking pretty good and fans are most definitely excited about what it will look like once Matthews finally makes his return to the roster.
Unfortunately, fans should not expect this return to come anytime soon. We say this because of an update that Craig Berube gave today.
He confirmed that Matthews is not going to play this week and the earliest he can return is actually going to be on Sunday.
Auston Matthews is not returning this week
He will have been "day to day" for three weeks."
Needless to say, it would appear as though Matthews has needed more time off than originally believed.
It was said that what Matthews is going through is a nagging injury and that he will eventually be fine. In fact, when he returns, he should be fully 100 percent.
Following Matthews' slow start to the season, there was this sense that he had something wrong with him. This injury issue seems to confirm that.
Hopefully, Matthews is able to fully solve his issues upon his return. Otherwise, fans are going to continue to be extremely upset.
That said, the Leafs are playing well enough to the point where they do not need to rush him back. Although it would definitely be nice to have the guy around.
