Joseph Woll turned aside 32 out of 35 shots on Saturday night as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 7-3.
The Leafs were down 3-0 after the first period, however, Woll and the rest of the roster battled back in what was one of the most impressive performances of the entire season.
While up 6-3 with about five minutes to go, Woll made a huge diving save on Nick Suzuki and it may just be the save of the entire NHL season.
After the game, Craig Berube commented on the save, noting that Woll's efforts last night were a huge reason why the Maple Leafs came away with the win.
These comments from Berube could be considered a form of foreshadowing for the future, especially with the playoffs on the horizon.
While the currently injured Anthony Stolarz might have better stats than Joseph Wolll (2.15 goal-against average compared to 2.68), there is no doubt that Woll has battled through adversity.
Additionally, he has more playoff experience than Stolarz, and the postseason is when you need that level of compete on your side.
Of course, we don't have a crystal ball so there is no telling what the team's goaltending situation will be in a few months from now.
What we can tell you is that the Leafs have won two in a row and they are feeling pretty good about themselves as a result.
