Morgan Rielly is considered to be the number one defenseman on the Toronto Maple Leafs, however, his play as of late has not been up to par.
In fact, Rielly was taken off of the first Power Play unit by head coach Craig Berube, who is clearly fed up with the defenseman's lack of production.
Last night, Rielly actually had a solid outing against the Montreal Canadiens as he got an assist and was a +2 for the evening.
Prior to the game, Berube spoke to the media about the defenseman's demotion and how he feels about it given his seniority with the franchise.
Berube made it crystal clear that Rielly is understanding of his situation and that he understands he needs to be a lot better in order to gain some trust back.
Rielly's mentality is a good one to have especially with the Maple Leafs looking to win a Stanley Cup for the first time since 1967.
There are some players on the team who just don't have the winning mentality, but Rielly definitely understands his role and how to make the team better.
Moreover, he is a guy who is absolutely fantastic in the playoffs, so that could definitely give the Leafs an edge once the important games come around.
Hopefully, we continue to see improvement from Rielly, who has been a cornerstone of the franchise for many years.
