Former NHLer delivers shocking take about Auston Matthews & the Maple Leafs
Former NHLer Nate Thompson offered up a pretty wild take about Auston Matthews, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and who truly is the best player on the roster.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a team that is stacked with talent as they have guys like Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and even William Nylander.
So far this season, Auston Matthews has dealt with injuries which has led Mitch Marner and William Nylander to carry the load.
Nylander leads the team in goals while Marner leads the team in points, and some are starting to think that Auston Matthews may not be the team's best player.
On the Empty Netters podcast, former NHL player Nate Thompson spoke about the Toronto Maple Leafs, and offered up a surprising assessment of the team's players.
Nate Thompson on Auston Matthews vs. William Nylander
In his eyes, William Nylander is actually the best players on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Why? You might ask. Well, it all comes down to work ethic and just how much effort Nylander puts into improving his game.
I saw that Amazon thing, I saw this guy and I'm like 'This guy works his nuts off'. You add his talent and what he can do, he's elite; the way he skates, shoots, passes."
Considering the work Auston Matthews does on the defensive side these days, it is hard to really agree with this assessment from Nate Thompson.
After all, Auston Matthews had 69 goals last season and since returning from injury, Matthews has added another three.
No matter what, the Maple Leafs are an amazing team, and the fact that they have all of this talent certainly bodes well for them.
