Toronto Maple Leafs star John Tavares didn't get to finish the 4 Nations Face-Off final on Thursday as Team Canada went on to defeat Team USA in overtime.

John Tavares had two teammates playing against each other in the 4 Nations Face-Off final with Mitch Marner on Team Canada and Auston Matthews on Team USA.

In the end, it was Marner and the Canadians who came out victorious, and the Leafs forward actually set up the game-winning goal.

As for Tavares, he was snubbed from Team Canada and considering the play of some individuals, some felt like he should have made the team.

Interestingly enough, Tavares didn't even watch the game, or at least not the ending of it.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, the former Maple Leafs captain says he turned the game off after the third period as it was well past his bed time.

"I went to bed after the third period. I turned it on this morning. My kids get up at the same time. You never know how long the game was going to go with how well both teams were playing, how tight the game was."

Tavares felt like there was a good chance that the game would go into multiple overtimes, so there was no point staying up.

In the end, he missed out on a truly incredible finish and a game that will likely stand the test of time.

Either way, the Maple Leafs are back in action tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes and that is going to make for a fascinating matchup.

Only time will tell whether or not Marner and Matthews will be ready to go following the emotions of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
